What will this placement involve?
• A local NGO, the Association of Young Linguists and Interpreters in Bosnia and Herzegovina, provides one day of teacher training and on-going support.
• Classes run from Monday to Friday; there is also plenty of free time for class preparation, sight seeing and leisure time on these afternoons.
• Classes are made of up no more than 12 students.
• Classes may consist of orphans aged from 8 to 17, unemployed adults, people with minor physical disabilities and students.
• All of the above are level checked before entering a class, so where possible class groups are of similar ages and levels.
• The focus of the classes will be on improving students’ speaking and listening ability through a variety of group activities and games.
• The main goal of these lessons is to build on the students’ confidence, enhance their understanding of English, strengthen their communication skills, overcome their fear of learning English… and have fun!
• Volunteers are expected to plan their own lessons, but local qualified teachers are available to assist in this.
• Course books, teaching materials and technical equipment are provided.
• Basic Bosnian language training is provided.
